It’s a new year and new resolutions. One of mine is to reduce the clutter in my house, which a large offender is junk mail. For Christmas I purchased the Staples Mailmate Junk Mail Shdredder. This thing is awesome! You don’t even need to read the rest of this review — trust me, it’s amazing.

For those of you who want the details, here goes:  It’s compact and sits on the counter so it’s easily accessible for mail as it comes through your house. It can shred staples and paperclips so you don’t have to worry about removing them. It will do a nice, thick piece of hate mail (uh, junk  mail) — or even those nasty bills ;0

What I really love is the power and size of this machine. I was reluctant to make the purchase; having been burned on shredders in the past. They said it did this or did that, but when I got it home it barely shredded the paper. The Mailmate really does shred the heck out of your paperwork. It’s important that it does the cross-shred too. It has a fairly large storage capacity (1.5 gallons) — no need for a garbage can on the bottom like your traditional shredders.

One of my concerns was that it would really only be used for mail, but you can easily fold a document in half, lengthwise, and it will be shredded. We tested CDs — disentegrated. We tried credit cards — obliterated. The box said it has a ferocious shredding power. Boy, does it ever. It’s been a life saver for us and has earned it’s place on our kitchen counter; which is another plus — it’s away from our little one’s tender fingers.

I bought mine in the store where they had a demo available to test how it shreds, but you can see an animated demo on their Web site.

If you don’t want to spend any money, don’t leave your house. Not even to return something. I had to return a pair of pants at the Gap Outlet, and while I was at the register, I made the mistake of looking back. And when I did, I saw 50 percent off dress pants, regular $34.99 to $39.99, pants that are around $60 in Gap. After investigating further, I found a table and a rack with jeans of all sizes (not just size 0 and 1 as I typically find) for just $14.99. That’s right, Gap jeans - skinny, boot cut, boy cut, etc. - for under $15. There was no luring myself away, the Pied Piper of Sales had whistled, and I was its puppet.

For shoe hounds, DSW is offering an extra 30 percent off the clearance rack. Unfortunately no finds to be had here for me as the two shoes I wanted to purchase had a high heel, and I’m already about 5′9″.

And don’t forget that sale at Godiva that fellow shopgirl Joyce mentioned earlier. Their dark chocolate wafer-thin chocolates (nine to a package) are perfect for stocking stuffers.

I was at our local mall when I spotted that the Godiva store was having a 40% off sale. I apologize for the blurry photo, but that’s the list of prices for their sale items. There were a lot of chocolates on sale - most of them were the boxed sets. We purchased a box of milk chocolate truffles (medium size) that was priced at $16.80 (retail was $28.99). These sets would make an amazing gift, especially during the holidays! Although I’m not sure how long chocolates last, or how long you can hold out on NOT eating a box of Godiva chocolates!

I had time to peruse a couple of my favorite beauty websites this weekend and what do I find? Fresh.com is having a sale! Starts August 22nd to August 25 (I hope my fellow shopgirls will remind me since I tend to forget these things sometimes). I’ve never bought anything from them online, but I have used a couple things from Fresh. However I must warn you that their products are uber-expensive, so proceed to the website with caution. Of course knowing me I didn’t pay full price for the Fresh products that I have. I highly recommend their glosses (Gloss absolute in Desire is my favorite color) and some of their Sugar products (sugar shea butter, sugar face polish, and lemon sugar perfume). I will probably review these products soon.
